Matthew J. Mims

Matthew J. Mims was born in Baton Rouge and raised in the very small town of Maringouin, LA. He graduated from Northwestern State University in 2016 with a BS in Biomedical Science and Minor in English. Throughout life, he has enjoyed hunting, fishing, as well as writing and performing poetry. He taught English at a Montessori School for two years, until he was eager to reignite his love for science, where he then worked as a Cytology and Grossing Technician in a pathology lab. Working next to four Pathologists' Assistants on a daily basis outlined and solidified his footing in patient care. Having the desire to remain in the South, Tulane's doors were the only one that he wanted to walk through to learn and understand what it means to be a Pathologists' Assistant. He is one of the Class of 2021's Advocacy Representatives to spread the knowledge of the PA profession. Matthew strongly believes that "repetition is the father of learning; and the second time you try, you will surely be less wrong than the first."

Gabrielle Perry

Gabrielle Perry was born and raised in Florence, South Carolina. When she is not working or studying, she enjoys riding and training horses, which she has been involved in since the age of 5. She attended the College of Charleston and graduated in 2015 with a BS in Biology. After graduation she briefly worked as a veterinary technician before being introduced into the world of pathology when her grandfather was diagnosed with terminal colorectal cancer. She was driven by an interest in anatomy and medicine as well a curiosity of the field of pathology. After diligent research she discovered she wanted to be a Pathologists’ Assistant and eventually was hired on at a pathology lab where she worked for three years gaining experience. During this time, she found her passion for teaching and she knew she had to find a way to mesh both pathology and being able to expand the knowledge of others. This lead her straight to Tulane, with its prestigious reputation and uniquely structured curriculum she knew she found where she was supposed to be. Having only recently relocated, she was told by many that New Orleans would quickly be a place that she would fall in love with and not want to leave. Gabrielle now frequently states that pathology is her niche in healthcare, and it guided her home.
